What is the difference between Vapour Barrier or Vapour Brake?
The vapour barrier can be a sheet or similar that prevents vapour from passing through completely. It is mainly used in damp rooms such as swimming pools or laundries where you do not want steam to escape. The vapour brake, on the other hand, is generally placed on the inside of the structure and slows down the passage of vapour that in winter is transported by the warm air towards the outside and that could cause deterioration of the materials if they remain soaked for too long.
Finally, the breathable membrane is placed on the outside of the structure because, in addition to resisting rainwater, it facilitates the evaporation of moisture that manages to pass through the vapour barrier and reach the structure.
VAPOR BRAKE
The DELTA FOL PVE is the classic vapour barrier. Practical and robust. Water- and airtight, UV-stabilised, with highly tear-resistant reinforcement, not micro-perforated and easy to lay.
It is heat-stable and lays easily, without any problems even when temperatures are high. The thin thickness of the material allows the most complicated and difficult-to-access parts of the roof to be realised without great difficulty.
The DELTA FOL PVE consists of four layers of material. Very tear-resistant, non-woven reinforcement with a special coating. It is also water-resistant, UV-stabilised and bitumen-free. It is heat-stable and lays easily, without any problems even when temperatures are high. It is particularly robust thanks to the optimised protection of the coating. Its high abrasion resistance and excellent anti-slip properties make it easy to lay. The thin thickness of the material allows the most complicated and difficult-to-access roof areas to be realised without great difficulty.
BREATHABLE MEMBRANE
DELTA ®-VENT P is a highly breathable waterproof membrane. For immediate evacuation of water vapour, windtightness and as waterproof protection over thermal insulation in sloping roofs.
It is a triple layer composed of highly breathable membrane between two non-woven polypropylene (PP) protection fabrics.
DELTA ®-VENT P is useful for immediate evacuation of water vapour, windtight sealing and as waterproof protection above thermal insulation in sloping roofs. It is used as a highly breathable waterproof membrane applied over thermal insulation for immediate evacuation of water vapour with anti-condensation effect, windtightness and as waterproof protection under sloping roof coverings.
Vapour barrier or vapour brake are never used together, the vapour brake is usually used with an external impermeable membrane.
